Epic RV Trip Itinerary, May 2012
Monday, May 7 – Depart Coppell around noon and drive
6 hours to Amarillo arriving around 6 pm, have dinner at the famous Big Texan
Steakhouse
Tuesday, May 8 – Depart early and drive to
Albuquerque arriving by noon, first visit the historic Old Town for some
shopping and sightseeing, then take the Sandia Peak Tram top the top of the
mountain, later, enjoy a NM style dinner
Wednesday, May 9 – Depart early and drive to the
Grand Canyon arriving by 1:00 pm, take in the incredible view of the GC and
then explore the GC village in the afternoon
Thursday, May 10 – Spend the day taking in all the
sights along the South Rim of the GC
Friday, May 11 – Depart early for a 4 hour drive to
Boulder City, Nevada arriving around noon, spend the afternoon touring the
Hoover Dam
Saturday, May 12 – Depart morning for our longest
drive of the trip, about 7 hours, to Three Rivers, arriving after lunch. We
will set up camp here for 5 days. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the
campground or go explore Kings Canyon NP.
Sunday, May 13 – Spend the day exploring Sequoia NP –
the big trees!
Monday, May 14 – Leaving the RV behind for a few
days, we take the Jeep up to Yosemite NP where we will check into our awesome
cabins at Yosemite Four Seasons for 2 nights. We depart in the morning for a 3
hour drive arriving in Yosemite before noon. We will explore Yosemite NP first
thing since check in time for our cabins is not until after 5 pm.
Tuesday, May 15 – Spend the day exploring Yosemite
NP, taking in all the classics including half dome, El Cap, Bridal Veil Falls,
Yos Falls, Tunnel View, Ahwahnee Hotel, Glacier Point if open. And hike up the
Mist Trail!
Wednesday, May 16 – Visit the Mariposa Grove of Big
Trees in the morning then it’s a three hour drive back to Three Rivers in the
afternoon.
Thursday, May 17 – Leave very early for a 6 hour
drive to Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley NP, arriving around noon. It will
already be very hot here even in May. We’ll set up a quick camp and get the ac
going then head over to Scotty’s Castle for a tour.
Friday, May 18 – Depart early for a 5 hour drive
Virgin, Utah, arriving around noon. We’ll visit Zion NP in the afternoon.
Saturday, May 19 – No driving the RV today! We’ll
spend the day visiting Zion NP.
Sunday, May 20 - No driving the RV today! We’ll spend
the day visiting Bryce Canyon NP.
Monday, May 21 - Depart early for a 5 hour drive to
the desert town of Moab, Utah. Moab has a hip vibe and is king of all adventure
sports. We should be arriving around noon. We’ll check out the town or perhaps
even visit Arches NP in the afternoon for a while.
Tuesday, May 22 – We’ll spend the day visiting Arches
NP. We also have reservations with “Canyonlands by Night” which is a boat tour
on the river followed by a rustic dinner.
Wednesday, May 23 – Depart early for a 2.5 hour
drive to Mancos, Colorado. We’ll spend the afternoon visiting Mesa Verde NP.
Thursday, May 24 – We’ll spend the day visiting Mesa
Verde NP, touring some of the fabulous ancient houses.
Friday, May 25 – Depart in the morning, stopping to
visit and shop in Durango, Colorado on the way. Then it’s a 5 hour drive to
Taos, NM and we should be arriving before dark around 7-8 pm. We’ll visit Taos
at night, doing a little shopping and perhaps finding a nice place to have
dinner.
Saturday, May 26 – Depart Taos at 8 am to arrive at
Bandelier National Monument by 9 am opening time. We’ll climb among the visit
the ancient ruins at Bandelier for a few hours then it’s a 6 hour drive to
Amarillo. We’ll be sure to top and check out the famous “Cadillac Ranch”
sculpture alongside I-40 near Amarillo.
Sunday, May 27 – It’s just a final 6 hour drive home
to Coppell.
